Kate Swaffer

Keynote Speaker

Kate Swaffer is a PhD Candidate at the University of South Australia, School of Justice and Society, investigating dementia as a disability, and is an independent researcher, speaker and consultant. She is an award-winning global disability rights and human rights campaigner, including winner of the 2021 University of South Australia Alumni Award, the 2018 Global Leader, Australian 100 Women of Influence in Australia, and the 2017 Australian Of The Year in SA. 


She has been a major catalyst for rehabilitation for people with dementia, and for dementia to be managed as a disability, and access to the CRPD. She has a MSc (Dementia Care), BPsych, BA, is retired nurse, and also lives with a rare form of young onset dementia.  Swaffer is an Honorary Associate Fellow with the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health, University of Wollongong, and an Ambassador for Step Up For Dementia Research Australia.

Analou Cariaga

As the General Manager of Quality Safety & Risk at Anglicare Sydney, Analou Cariaga brings a wealth of experience in clinical governance and aged care management. In her current role, Analou oversees 23 residential care homes, accommodating over 2,600 residents, where she established and implemented a governance framework and quality assurance system. Her efforts have been instrumental in successfully re-accrediting several homes and effectively managing clinical and quality teams.

 

Committed to elevating aged care quality and safety, Analou’s focus is on continuous learning and evidence-based practices.  Her role involves developing strategic plans aligned with our goals and mentoring teams to foster a culture of excellence in aged care.

Dr Radheshan Baskaran

Geriatrician

Dr Radheshan Baskaran is a staff specialist in geriatric and general medicine at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital in Sydney. He is also a clinical associate lecturer at the University of Sydney.

 

Dr Baskaran has a special interest in dementia and cognitive disorders. He worked heavily with residential aged care facilities in the Hornsby region as a part of the GRACE outreach service. He is currently managing the specialised dementia unit at Hornsby Hospital.

Dina Farag

Meditrax Clinical Pharmacist and Education Lead

Dina Farag is a clinical consultant pharmacist and a graduate from the University of Sydney. With a passion for primary care and chronic disease management, Dina Farag became an accredited Pharmacist in 2004. She has worked to improve the medication use and health outcomes of older Australians over the past 20 years, through clinical expertise, delivering of comprehensive and patient centred medication management reviews, involvement in GP case conferences, and providing education to registered nurses, other nursing staff and GPs. She acquired the role of Education Lead in 2022, where she has partnered with aged care organisations to identify gaps and provide educational strategies to optimise medication safety in RACFs. She has also held other roles in education like mentoring students in the Masters of Pharmacy at UTS.
