Medication Management Specialists

Optimising medication use in the elderly, educating staff and supporting aged care homes in safe practice guidelines.

Save the date for the Meditrax Clinical Training Day,                Friday 22nd May 2020

For 2020 we have planned more topical and informative sessions.  Here is a preview of some of the speakers:

Based on her excellent presentation last year, Doctor Robyn McCarthy Geriatrician will give us a clinical update on management of dementia, restraint and deprescribing in aged care and having some interactive sessions based on your feedback.

Much has changed in the management of Diabetes and a former Speaker, Endocrinologist Doctor Steve Thornley will bring us up to date with the latest in treatments now available and new guidelines for management of diabetes across all age groups.

Debbie Rigby spoke about the Human Microbiome last year and is also an expert in respiratory conditions and management and will bring us up to date with new devices and new treatment strategies in the management of respiratory conditions and the relevance to Aged Care.

Jane Mahoney is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with Palliative Aged Care Consultancy Services and provides best practice to Aged Care Organisations in their management of Palliative Care. End stage heart failure is often not as effectively managed as other terminal conditions and Jane will provide us with strategies to manage the associated symptoms and distress.

This time we will be inviting more audience participation and an opportunity to provide your own case studies and questions.

Register early to ensure your place. We have a bigger space in 2020 and expect another full house.

What our clients say:

I want to thank you for the advice you gave me for mum. It has been perfect! They no longer give her the sleeping tablet, and there’s such a big difference in her behaviour. She no longer wants to sleep all day long, she has rosy cheeks and she’s enjoying activities again. The difference is amazing! If it wasn’t for what you said, I would never have thought to say something. Thank you so much.

- Gabi, relative

Would you like

Brenda is an 82 year old aged care resident, who has been taking the same medications for over 15 years. Several days ago, she developed swollen lips, which were painful and uncomfortable. There have been no changes to her skincare, diet, medications, and her condition has been stable.

A Meditrax pharmacist reviews her medications, and identifies she is on ramipril, an ACE-Inhibitor blood pressure medication, which can cause angioedema – swelling of the deeper layers of the skin, even after long-term use.
The medication is changed to an alternative, and she is treated with an antihistamine. Her lip swelling quickly resolves.
