Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs)

Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs)

Have you ever heard this from your residents: “But it’s only a natural product!  Why does the doctor need to know about it?”

Addressing the dilemma of residents wishing to take complimentary and alternative medicines (CAMs) can be difficult and complex, with the need to consider each resident’s reasons for wanting to take a CAM and weighing this against potential issues such as interactions with other prescribed agents.

Meditrax has delved into these issues and produced three different newsletters, one directed at residents and relatives, another for facility staff, and a further resource for GPs to assist in treatment decisions with CAMs and optimise their safe use.

The Medication Management Policies and Procedures Template 2nd Edition has just been released!
by Samara Haloob - Wednesday, 28 June 2017, 7:59 AM

Many facilities will be undergoing Reaccreditation during 2018, and it is important to review Policies and Procedures well beforehand to ensure that when assessed, there is consistency between what is written as Policy and Procedure and what is occurring on a day to day basis.

Meditrax Pharmacists are Medication Management Specialists dealing specifically with Aged Care. Our UPDATED Medication Management Policy and Procedure Development Template may be a helpful tool to ensure your facility meets all Medication Management outcomes at accreditation. Our Policies and Procedures Development Template has been moulded by the Meditrax team based on many years of experience carrying out Quality Use of Medicines ...

"Age Speaks" on Facebook
by Meditrax Administration - Friday, 28 October 2016, 2:30 PM

Meditrax has started a new publication called “Age Speaks” – Meditrax. “Age Speaks” – gives residents the opportunity to share a snippet of their life stories/events/memorable moments of their life journeys hence the provocative name “Age Speaks”. On a weekly basis, we will be interviewing a resident from an aged care facility, listening and hearing their stories and then posting a brief summary on Meditrax Facebook page. This has been a huge success, generating followers on the Facebook page with requests for more. One of the residents we recently interviewed said he had always wanted to be on Facebook and now he is! He also said we were great listeners.

The Review of Professional Pharmacy Programs and Services - Meditrax
by Meditrax Administration - Wednesday, 14 September 2016, 4:17 PM
Sign this petition and join us to raise the bar by improving RMMRs and QUM services to Aged Care Facilities

An independent review is underway of Pharmacy remuneration and regulation in Australia. This will enable the panel to make recommendations on future remuneration to pharmacists for professional programs and services.

Residential Medication Management Reviews (RMMR) and Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) services to aged care facilities are an important part of the pharmacy programs to be reviewed. Meditrax seeks the support of aged care organisations, facility managers, GPs, RNs and care workers in maintaining and increasing these valuable services.

We ask for your support in signing the petition below to strengthen our case for the continuation and expansion of consultant pharmacist services in aged care facilities.
