Have you ever heard this from your residents: “But it’s only a natural product! Why does the doctor need to know about it?”
Addressing the dilemma of residents wishing to take complimentary and alternative medicines (CAMs) can be difficult and complex, with the need to consider each resident’s reasons for wanting to take a CAM and weighing this against potential issues such as interactions with other prescribed agents.

Meditrax has started a new publication called “Age Speaks” – Meditrax. “Age Speaks” – gives residents the opportunity to share a snippet of their life stories/events/memorable moments of their life journeys hence the provocative name “Age Speaks”. On a weekly basis, we will be interviewing a resident from an aged care facility, listening and hearing their stories and then posting a brief summary on Meditrax Facebook page. This has been a huge success, generating followers on the Facebook page with requests for more. One of the residents we recently interviewed said he had always wanted to be on Facebook and now he is! He also said we were great listeners.

An independent review is underway of Pharmacy remuneration and regulation in Australia. This will enable the panel to make recommendations on future remuneration to pharmacists for professional programs and services.
