The 6th and latest edition of the Meditrax “Do Not Crush” booklet has been released. It is an essential resource for facilities where residents may not be able to swallow their medications whole.
The resource lists medications that may not be crushed in alphabetical order providing the rationale and a suitable alternative where appropriate. New to this edition is a procedure for crushing tablets and how to administer via PEG tube.
Meditrax has expanded the booklet to include cytotoxic and hazardous drugs, as well as teratogenic agents. This list is more comprehensive and should be used by aged care staff administering medications. It is also useful to GPs when prescribing or enquiring about alternative options available. The booklet is available to download without charge for 3 months following release and will be available for purchase thereafter.
